POP-UP ADVENTURE PLAYGROUNDS

2017: The Year With the Impromptu Tug of War

Pop-up Adventure Playground @ GUI

11 Mar 2017

We held our very first Pop-Up of the year on 11 March at Ground-Up Initiative (GUI). For this event, we saw a lot of constructive play with the children using wooden blocks, plastic bottles, baskets, ropes, masking tape and various everyday objects around them to make "cars", "battle ships" and whatever they imagined! Physical play also featured strongly that day, with the children engaging in an impromptu tug of war, friendly jousting with some poles, jumping over boxes, climbing into big plastic containers and then being pulled around in them! Despite never meeting before, the children quickly turned into playmates, applying co-operation and healthy competition to their play. The parents had a relaxing time sitting back on rattan mats on the floor and helping themselves to light snacks and drinks.

Thank you to Pop-Up Adventure Play for their ever valuable support, GUI for letting us use their wonderful space, and to our volunteers (Ana, Olivia, Siew Wern, Zoe and Anne) for their presence, energy and help!
